RoxanneJuly 18, 2024 at 3:52 PM While I did not video tape much today, there was some excellent training going on as I worked Redd n Ruth on field drills. Several RC students did their dog doing retrieves as I was blowing the whistle and sending my dogs to retrieve (show offs they are) and those RC students were working their dogs in Prey Drive. TOTALLY different drive with very different results.
And Karen/Cosmos did and completed their Week 5 EXAM # 1, Vickster's Test, before we got started this morning. And Kat/Niko practiced their Week 7 EXAM, Take 4 or 5, there at CV also once we all left.
It was amazing to me how much everyone including the dogs have improved. Cosmo only tried to nip at one dog today when she got to close, big progress since he try and nip at another dog when they were a couple of feet away. I still am watching him closely for safety reasons.
These dogs, every day at HHPR, are exponentially upping the ante on their self-control. One of the reasons my dogs are able to constantly handle the ever shifting 'pressure' of new dogs and new challenges IS because they are constantly put into situations where self-control is required. And that self-control increases their trust and confidence that they are safe, even when I use them as bait. It's a win-win-win for all as the more self-control required, the stronger the dog becomes at controlling itself. It's an interesting and fascinating result of training in tough situations.
