Down w/agggressive GSD, Pree having meltdown (literally) and Down Blooper
In real time, this Koehler Instructor uses Phooey! instead of OUT!, when this aggressive GSD attempts to bite her.
Notice how VERY careful this Instructor is in her body mechanics AND keeping her face AWAY from this GSD.

Roxanne working Pree through her hissie fit. Pree did NOT attempt a redirect bite so that is why I did NOT "Out!" her. However, I continued to work her as I could NOT let her succeed at failing to do the right thing which was the Down as commanded. I remained CCC - Calm, Cool & Collected and did NOT take offense at her behavior, but did also display PIC - Persistent, Insistent and Consistent in requiring her to do what she was commanded to do regardless of her opinion.

ReplyDeleteMy apologies, but I taught you the Down Correction today which is Week 5 material. I believe I did so because of what I saw last week during HHPR group photo shoot. I thought you were farther along, which is totally my mistake. Instead of the Down corrections, you will want to do the Down Shaping and forming for the next two weeks. Still, wear gloves and do so on an elevated surface where you have more leverage.
Honestly, sometimes I think I am getting old. WAIT, I am old-:)

ReplyDeleteCosmo and I worked to the down command/position, he does not like to have me dominate him so I tried using the hand command and because we have done this in the past he has responded well. Hope this is ok.

ReplyDeleteThis speaks to your current mindset that Cosmos is your protector. No, he is not, rather you are HIS protector. "He doesn't like me to dominate him" is giving a dog the position of leadership and authority in your relationship, that is an incorrect viewpoint. You are HIS leader and HIS authority and he must yield to that leadership as his yielding is him letting go of being Pack Leader. You are the Pack Leader.
Much of the training I do is way past mere mechanics, way past philosophy of KMODT, way past just having a dog that walks well on a loose leash. Rather this training is about training you to be your dog's leader, based on trust, respect and consistency. We can discuss this more when next we meet so you can gain more understanding of 'Pack'. It's important.
